Results Combination Packages

Combination Packages (CombiBreed® and CombiGen®) have been developed with cutting-edge technologies for the purpose to allow our clients to achieve an overview on the most important inherited diseases or other genetic characteristics. This approach allows for the analysis of specific sets of genetic markers in the breed of your animal.

In order to realize a highly cost effective approach, we focus on the so-called “call rate” of all results produced in one project. The call rate determines the quality of the sample. This is illustrated in the following example: When we combine a total of 100 samples for the CombiBreed Package FCI 01 (23 tests in one package) into one project, a maximum of 2.300 test results can be expected. We require a minimum overall call rate of 95% (meaning >95% of the tested markers successfully yielding results) for a project to be accepted. Thus, out of 2.300 test results at least 2.185 test results should be reported. Typically, a call rate of close to 99% is achieved for most projects.

Within a high-quality analysis, incidentally a sample shows a low call rate (possibly due to poor DNA sample quality). When a sample has a low call rate (e.g. 66%), this sample is retested.

The project will be deemed to be analysed completely and successfully when the call rate crosses a certain threshold. In this case, the tests without a result will not be repeated but are reported as “no result”. Consequently, it may occur that one or two results for individual tests are missing in a combination package.

If such a missing result is imperatively needed, we recommend to order the particular test individually.
